"Long live AdventureQuest 3D!"

Without any warning, we surprise launched the tech demo of our new 3D MMO game engine. Just as the original AdventureQuest started inside the tiny interior of Yulgar's inn... so does the birth of this new game. "Actually walking around Yulgar's inn in 3D... who would have believed!?"

The reaction was uninimous!

  1. It is Fast.
  2. It is Beautiful.
  3. It is Bug free.
  4. The excorcist emote is really creepy! :P

The AQW3D tech demo is live right now for Members of AdventureQuest Worlds.

SUPER SHORT BACKSTORY

The team and I were crushed when the original AQ3D was cancelled for very good reasons. We began PROJECT: OMNI, with the goal of building games for all devices: Phones, Tablets, PCs, Toasters, etc.

"Never Give Up!" Please watch the video "Artix vs the Wall" on YouTube.

During the last tweleve months our team has been training and building, approaching a near mastery level with both 2D and 3D development for web and mobile using Unity and other tools. It has been more difficult than we ever imagined imagined. But in the end, Zhoom and the programmers created two new omni-game engines. One for 2D, and this one for 3D.

You built this in SECRET!?

We did not announce this or create any hype (other than the occassional leaked image on my Artix Krieger facebook page) because, honestly, we were really mad at ourselves for what happened with the original AQ3D and do not ever want that situation to happen again. So Zhoom & Xero worked diligently on this in secret. This Tech Demo is a full re-created, vastly better looking, faster, smoother, bug free multiplayer experience. We built iPhone and Android apps (not released yet) which allow you to login and play on your phone. In fact, I have been mostly playing from the dev version of the app on my iPhone.

AQW3D? Wait, I thought it was AQ3D?

We rebuilt the 3D MMO project from the ground up. It now uses the AdventureQuest Worlds login and art style. We changed the name so that is was very clear to everyone that this is not the same project as the previous one.

In the future we will likely decide to change it back because of how unweildly it is to type!

Why is AQW3D going to work when AQ3D did not?

Easy answer: "Unlike the game's predecessor, this game runs on phones and tablets apps too! It is an Omni-Game."

Longer answer: See, the original AQ3D was built with the intention of running in Flash. The 3D graphics, shaders, poly count and hardware specs were all designed for the web. When the carpet got pulled out from under us, we had a ton of assets that were only good for the web. Too complex for phones and not good enough to make a stand alone steam game. Rebuilding this from the ground up we have optimized graphics that will run on any modern device. We know everyone is playing on their phones and tablets now... and that is where our games need to be. That is where AQW3D will be! This is something we can grow, improve, and expand for the next 10+ years.

Interactive Development: HOW YOU CAN HELP!

You probably have a ton of questions that I will not be able to answer below. Because... well, you have not helped us decide yet! My dream for this project is to build it like we did the original AdventureQuest. Side by side! That is... we build forward and involve you in all of the steps. There are a few questions I can answer now:

Will the combat by like AQWorlds?
No, it will be a lot more action oriented.

How many Emotes are there?
Korin animated a ton of amazing emotes including a... er... twerk. Some of them are really funny. There does not seem to be any limit to the amount of animation we can add to the web version.

When can I customize my character?
Right now, the game gives everyone random skin & armor color when they log in. Soon you will be able to customize your character like in AQWorlds -- maybe a little deeper.

Will my Gold, ACs, Armor, etc from AQWorlds be imported into this game?
We do not know yet. The mobile versions will have access to less options. We are open to ideas and solutions.

Why is there little to no moderation?
During early testing, a lot of things will not be in place. We expect everyone to be on their best behaivor and enjoy the tests. If someone is really out of hand, their AQWorlds account will be banned and they will lose access to this game.

Why are only AQWorlds Members able to participate?
There is only a single development server and limited space. The AQWorlds Members/Legends who upgraded are literally paying the bills for it and fairly deserve first access at it. It will be this way for most of early development.

What if I am an Alpha Knight from the previous tests
We have your Alpha Knight status saved in the database. We have not come up with an official plan yet as there are a ton of questions on the login system. For the immediate future, the AQWorlds login is the only way to play.

I can build 3D stuff! Can I help?
Please send us a link to samples of your work. Even if we are not looking for help now, we will definately need it once the release cycle starts!

Will AQWorlds 2D continue?
OF COURSE! It is our most popular game O_O. We have a second team with 3D skills to work on this one.

Does this game have a plot yet? When does it take place?
We feel that this game should be a contination of AdventureQuest Worlds. So in the timeline, the plot will feature new villains and areas headed North of the map while AQWorlds goes to the southearn continent and DragonFable goes East. We would very much like to have a "Game of Thrones" like warring factions-- Dage's Legion, Artix's Guardians, and Drakath's Chaoslords would definately be 3 of the 10+ possible factions.

PVP?
Dage says, "YES." ...and none of us are going to disagree. It will be a high priority of this project, and vastly superior to the current system in AQWorlds.

I think we can re-texture and re-animate some of the original AdventureQuest 3D monsters to be used in this new game. Or... we will just rebuild them. One of the many promises I seek to keep is putting the "design a monster" contest winner's creation into the game.

Thank you

Thank you for everyone who believed in us. We are so excited about this project it gives us goosebumps and that warm fuzzy feeling inside. Maybe you feel it too? We know that this is the right move
